National Absinthe Day:
March 5
On Wednesday, March 5, raise a glass in honor of National Absinthe Day, celebrating the iconic green spirit!
This distilled liquor, infused with botanicals such as anise, wormwood, fennel, and a medley of other herbs and spices, is renowned for its vivid green color and distinctive licorice-like taste.
Absinthe is known for romanticism, danger, and madness, cementing its legendary status in art and literature.

Known as "the green fairy," absinthe originated in 18th-century Switzerland and became a beloved muse for artists and writers throughout Europe. While its popularity has diminished over the years, absinthe retains its charm as a niche favorite, available in select bars. In celebration of National Absinthe Day, several establishments in New Orleans are mixing up exceptional absinthe-inspired cocktails to mark the occasion.
"Absinthe, on a summer evening, is one of the most perfect creatures that man has ever created. It transforms the humblest of mortals into a poet and makes the poet of the highest order a genius."
— Guy de Maupassant
